Autumn Trophy stays with Canberra’s skaters again
Once again the Canberra team, of 19 figure skaters from the ACT
Ice Skating Association (ACTISA), won the 2010 Autumn Trophy after
competing against skaters from NSW, SA and Queensland at the Phillip
Swimming and Ice Skating Centre, 28th to 29th May 2010.
With an increased numbers of competitors this year, from Preliminary
to Junior level, the skaters provided spectators with some stunning
performances of their short and freeskate routines. Forty-four skaters
competed over two nights, with a welcome and very successful contingent
of 21 skaters from Queensland.
The Autumn Trophy has been an integral part of Australian figure
skating calendar for more than 20 years.
Visiting NSW Official and Olympic Judge, Wendy Langton, commented;
“ACTISA’s Autumn Trophy has become an even more important
part of the national figure skating calendar. With a recent change
in the national calendar schedule, this competition has provided,
and will continue to provide, skaters with an essential opportunity
to showcase their programs in front of high level judging.”
ACTISA President and international figure skating judge, Angelique
Clyde-Smith, commented; "Once again, the high standard of ACT
skaters was impressive to the panel of judges. Autumn Trophy is
the first major competition for the new season using updated regulations
and also attracts skaters from interstate to perform their new routines
in front of a judging panel. Scores and results are a valuable tool
to make improvements before the next competitions, including Hollins
Trophy in Sydney in June and the national ranking event, the Winter
Sun Trophy in Brisbane in July."
The National Federation Challenge and Winter Artistic Competition
will be held at the Phillip rink on 31 July and 1 August 2010, providing
Canberra and interstate skaters another opportunity to compete with
their artistic and technical programs.
