Canberra skaters continue with personal bests at Hollins 2010
Six ACT figure skaters, from a team of fourteen, have again placed
in the top 5 improving on their personal best scores from 2009,
after competing in the Hollins Trophy at the Canterbury Olympic
Ice Rink, Sydney, 11-14 June 2010. With another four ACT skaters
making it into the top ten for their divisions
The first competitors, on Friday 11 June, in the Preliminary Division
with strong performances were Maddison Fletcher, Gemma Williams
and Ella Polkinghorne. These were followed by with a personal best
score for Mia Connell-Whitty receiving bronze for her Elementary
Division program.
Saturday continued with two golds with personal bests in the Pre-Primary
Division by Sarah Molinari and in the Primary Division by Eiland
Kenyon. Dilli Kenyon placed in the top 10 with 8th in the Pre-Primary
Division.
Outstanding performances continued on Sunday in the Intermediate
Division, with silver for Ashleigh Mansell and bronze for Katie
Francis. Justine Thornton also placed in the top 10 with 8th in
the Intermediate Division
Final day, Monday 14 June 2010, concluded with the Novice Ladies
and Junior Mens Divisions. A very strong recovery by Karuna Henderson
placed her 4th with two more skaters in the top ten; Bethany McMahon
placing 7th and Alexis Kooyman 10th. Josephine Kooyman placed 12th
with Robbie Ashman also placing in the top ten.
The Hollins Trophy has been a major technical competition on the
Australian figure skating calendar for 42 years and is considered
as one of the major events prior to state and national championships.
Coaches Miram Manzano and Sally Patton both expressed their pleasure
at seeing their ACT skaters being recognised as a team to watch
out for in Australian skating.
The next ACT two competitions will be held at the Phillip ice rink
on 31 July and
1 August 2010, where skaters from the ACT and interstate will compete
in the Federation Challenge and Winter Artistic. See the ACTISA
