Thirteen year old ACT figure skater Eiland Kenyon, is continuing
to impress, by placing second at the 2011 NZ Winter Games in the
Novice Ladies Single Division figure skating, while representing
Australia in her first international competition.
Eiland travelled to Dunedin, New Zealand, on Tuesday with her dad,
Owen, and her ACT coach Sally Patton to prepare for her two days
of competition. Competing in a field of seven skaters from Australia,
New Zealand and Singapore, she trailed first place by just over
3 points after completing her short program skate on Thursday. This
placed her in a prime position for yesterday’s freeskate program.
“Eiland prepared very well for this competition and was able
to overcome her ‘first day’ nerves to produce a dazzling
performance with her freekate program tonight”, said her very
proud dad, Owen Kenyon.
Eiland will be bringing home silver after placing second in her
freeskate program and second overall in the competition.
Eiland will be arriving home in Canberra on Monday, where she will
start preparing for the NSW Championships over 17-21 September as
her lead-up to the ACT Championships on 23-24 September, at the
Phillip Swimming and Ice Skating Centre.
